New Delhi, Dec 29: Congress President Rahul Gandhi rebuked party MLA Asha Kumari for slapping a woman constable in Shimla. The leader said in a meeting that such behaviour will not be tolerated in the party. The Congress MLA, later, apologised for her act. The incident occurred when Congress MLA Asha Kumari was trying to force her way into Congress meeting in Shimla. The leader slapped a lady constable who was trying to stop her. In retaliation, the constable also slapped the MLA. The video of the exchange got viral on social media. “I am not happy at it. This is no way. No one has a right to raise hand against someone, at least not the Congress culture. I will not tolerate indiscipline in the party,” Rahul was quoted by Indian Express.

Asha Kumari said that the woman constable pushed her.  “She( woman constable) abused me and pushed me, she should have shown restrain, I am her mother’s age, but yes I agree I should not have lost my temper. I apologise,” she added.

Her apology couldn’t prevent an FIR against her as the police have booked her under section 332/353 of Indian Penal Code.

Rahul Gandhi was in Shimla to attend a Congress meeting to assess the loss in recent assembly elections. Asha Kumari is All India Congress Committee secretary and in-charge of Punjab. She is an MLA from Dalhousie.
