Kurnool: Congress president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a chowkidar who opened the door and let thieves in. Adding to this, he said that had PM Modi been a real gatekeeper or ‘chowkidar’ then he would have sacked Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for letting Vijay Mallya escape the country.
Gandhi alleged that the reason behind PM Modi not ousting Arun Jaitley was because he himself was corrupt. Earlier today, the Congress delegation submitted a detailed memorandum along with enclosures to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) while seeking a probe into the alleged irregularities in the high-profile Rafale fighter aircraft deal.
Gandhi went on to allege that after becoming Prime Minister, Modi snatched the contract from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and changed as well as signed during the previous UPA government to buy 126 fighter jets. The Congress president alleged, “The only possibility is that the Finance Minister allowed (Vijay) Mallya to leave the country in exchange for something. There was a deal between them.”
Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Modi government was disrespecting the people of Andhra Pradesh by breaking all promises made to Andhra Pradesh during bifurcation. He added that when Congress will be voted to power then they would immediately accord special category status to Andhra Pradesh as per the commitment made by the government of India when unified Andhra Pradesh was split in 2014.
Gandhi also attacked PM Modi in the day for the tragic death of sewer worker Anil in west Delhi saying the slogan of Swachh Bharat was a hollow one. Gandhi said, “PM’s Swachh Bharat is a hollow slogan when he is blind to the plight of thousands of manual scavengers”.
Anil died while cleaning a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) sewer pit in west Delhi’s Dabri on Friday evening. The incident took place less than a week after the death of five workers inside a sewage pipe of DLF Capital Greens in Moti Nagar.
