New Delhi, June 12: Congress president Rahul Gandhi cited his meeting with ailing former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), while addressing party workers in Mumbai. “We had contested against Vajpayee ji but when he is ill now I went to meet him on priority because I am a soldier of Congress. Vajpayee Ji had worked for our country and we respect him as he was the Prime Minister. This is our culture,” Rahul Gandhi said on Tuesday.
The 93-year-old leader has been admitted in AIIMS’ ICU on Monday with urinary tract infection, lower respiratory tract infection and kidney issues. (Also read: Traffic to Suffer Because of Rahul Gandhi’s Rally)
The Congress president also attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accused him of disrespecting his guru and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) patriarch Lal Krishna Advani. “LK Advani has been the guru of PM Modi, but I have seen in events that PM Modi does not even respect his guru. Today I feel very sad for Advani ji. The Congress party has given Advani more respect than PM Modi,” Rahul claimed.
He also lashed out at the BJP over recently concluded Karnataka Assembly Polls and said that the ruling party will be defeated in 2019 as well by the Congress and other opposition parties. “They (BJP) have recently lost in Karnataka and have barely saved themselves in Gujarat, they will be wiped out in Rajasthan, MP and Chhatisgarh. Congress and other opposition parties will defeat them in the General Elections of 2019,” Rahul asserted.
Gandhi also claimed that a senior politician who has been fighting against the grand old party for 50 years now felt that Congress could keep India safe. “A senior politician told me that he has been fighting against the Congress for the past 50 years & it is after 50 years that he realised that if there is any party which can keep the country safe it is the Congress. Only Congress can defeat the ideology of BJP and RSS,” Gandhi told his party workers in Mumbai.
