New Delhi, June 11: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday visited former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, where the latter was admitted for “routine check-up”, according to statements from the BJP and hospital.

The hospital also confirmed that Vajpayee’s condition was normal. “He is stable. A team of doctors under the supervision of Randeep Guleria, Director, AIIMS are conducting tests,” the hospital said in its statement.

Vajpayee, 93, who was Prime Minister briefly in 1996 and then from 1998 to 2004, has retreated from active politics over the last few years due to falling health conditions.

Vajpayee is a recipient of India’s highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna. He is also a Padma Vibhushan awardee.

More details are awaited.
