New Delhi, Sep 9: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Friday visited the Hanumangarhi temple for ‘darshan’ in Ayodhya during his Uttar Pradesh yatra ahead of 2017 Assembly elections in the state. He also met Mahant Gyandas of the temple. Gandhi will also undertake a “kisan mahayatra” to highlight the plight of farmers in Uttar Pradesh. On the fourth day of the yatra that was kicked off from Deoria in eastern UP on September 6, the Congress Vice President reached Faizabad today. With the upcoming Eid celebrations, Gandhi will take a two-day halt on September 12 and 13 during his month-long mahayatra. The yatra would recommence from September 14. Gadhi received a warm welcome in Faizabad from children of Faizabad Public School at Gandhi Park on Friday morning before his roadshow. Gandhi also garlanded the statues of Mahatma Gandhi, Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Acharya Narendra Dev in Faizabad. Gandhi also shared pictures of his roadshow on Twitter. With this Ayodhya visit Gandhi becomes the first ever Gandhi visited by a member of the Nehru-Gandhi family since the demolition of the disputed structure in 1992. After the demolition of the Babri Masjid 24 years ago, in December 1992, no member of the Congress’ first family has visited Ayodhya.
Gandhi will now be visiting Allahabad on the September 14 for a ‘Khaat Sabha’. Gandhi will be spending the day in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
