New Delhi, April 26: The Congress has filed a police complaint saying that the flight that carried its president Rahul Gandhi among others developed ‘unexplained’ snags. The special flight from New Delhi to Hubli carried onboard four others: Rahul’s aide Kailash Vidyarthee, Rampreet, Rahul Ravi and Rahul Gautam. In the letter to the Karnataka DGP Neelmani N Raju, Vidyarthee reportedly said that the ‘shuddering and altitude dipping was not natural or weather-related’. Rahul Gandhi was travelling to Hubli for the upcoming Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018. Also Read - Every Indian Deserves Chance to Safe Life: Rahul Gandhi on COVID-19 Vaccine Age Limit

“At around 10:45 am the aircraft suddenly tilted heavily on the left side and the altitude dipped steeply, combined with violent shuddering of the aircraft body. It is to be stated that the weather outside was sunny, normal and not windy as per the observation of the passengers and as per the forecast for the day. A clanking noise was clearly audible from one side of the plane throughout the shuddering of the aircraft body,” he said in his complaint. Claiming that the aircraft could be landed only after three attempts,  he said the landing was accompanied by unusual shaking. “The whole flight experience left the passengers with a lot of anxiety and distress, and positively fearing for their lives. The crew was also apparently petrified and admitted that the flight was particularly frightening and uncommon,” he added. The Congress has said it could be a result of ‘intentional tampering’ and has sought that the issue be investigated.

Later, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation later offered an explanation through a tweet. It said the snag occurred during the autopilot mode and the pilot shifted to the manual mode to execute a safe landing. For VIP flights, the DGCA examines everything in detail and it would be done in this case as well.
