The instructions, on the same, have been issued to the concerned authorities in a circular to Railway Zones concerned recently.

Earlier on November 8, 2016, in a similar initiative, the South Western Railway’s Bengaluru Division (SBC) decided not to paste charts on reserved coaches of all trains originating from Bengaluru City and Yeshwantpur Railway Stations as a part of green initiative. The move came as the authorities felt that there were other alternatives to know the status of the confirmed berth.

Notably, a passenger who has a confirmed ticket gets the berth number on the ticket itself whereas, for a passenger in the waitlist would receive an SMS indicating the berth number if the ticket is confirmed. Apart from this, the facility of 139 is available to know confirmed status through the PNR number. Also, the SBC has installed digital display of charts for tickets confirmed from waitlisted category at City and Yeshvantpur stations. Noteworthy, only one complaint has been received in the matter till now, which shows that the initiative has proved to be highly successful.
