New Delhi, Mar 19: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Chief Raj Thackeray was on the offensive on Sunday. Speaking at an MNS rally, Thackeray questioned the decision of according a state funeral to late Bollywood actor Sridevi. “Why was her body wrapped in the tricolour? She was a superb actor but what had she done for the country,” asked the MNS chief. Thackeray went on to say that media extensively covered the late actor’s funeral so as to divert the country’s attention from the Nirav Modi-Punjab National Bank Scam which was a hot topic a month back. The MNS chief had a lot up his sleeve as he didn’t end his slew of scathing remarks. He went on to attack Bollywood’s Khiladi, Akshay Kumar, saying that films like “Toilet Ek Prem Katha” and “Padman” were nothing but mere clandestine propaganda for the government schemes. He added how Akshay was trying to ape yesteryear actor Manoj Kumar aka Bharat Kumar. Thackeray even questioned Akshay’s citizenship, claiming that the actor wasn’t even Indian and was described as India-born Canadian actor according to his Wikipedia profile.
Earlier yesterday, Thackeray called upon the Opposition to unite to ensure a “Modi-mukt Bharat” by 2019. While addressing party workers at the rally, Thackeray said that the country was fed up with the false promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He asked the Opposition to unite and fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led NDA government. He also said that 2019 could bring a third Independence to India if it got rid of the Modi government, stating that India got its first Independence in 1947, second in 1977, after the post-Emergency elections. His reiterated that the Modi-mukt Bharat slogan reminded the audience at the rally of BJP’s Congress-mukt Bharat slogan.
