Mumbai, Feb 14: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray will start his campaign for BMC Elections 2017 from today (February 14). Raj Thackeray will address two rallies in Mumbai. Raj Thackeray will address people at 6:30 PM in Vikhroli and 8:00 PM in Vile Parle. The MNS chief will be holding public meeting for the first time since the announcement of BMC polls 2017. Raj Thackeray, who had initially planned to address at least 36 rallies across Maharashtra for the civic elections, has now restricted himself to just six in the next five days. After rallies in Vikhroli and Vile Parle, raj Thackeray will be addressing rallies in Diva, Pune and Nasik. The MNS chief will end his poll campaign with a grand rally at Dadar on February 18, which is the last day for campaigning for BMC elections 2017. According to MNS leaders, Raj Thackeray didn’t address rallies because he was unwell. Speaking to Hindustan Times, an MNS leader also admitted that the party was not expecting big results. “Rajsaheb was unwell and so he could not address rallies. Though we are not expecting an outstanding result, we seek to win respectable number of seats,” the MNS leader was quoted as saying.
The MNS has won 28 seats in the 2012 BMC elections, and came to power in Nashik. After Shiv Sena broke ties with Bharatiya Janata Party, Raj Thackeray had extended an olive branch to his estranged cousin and Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray. However Shiv Sena turned down the offer. In his address, Raj Thackeray is expected to slam Shiv Sena and BJP.
The MNS supremo stressed that people of Maharashtra should bring the change. “MNS is the party which is devoted towards the welfare of Maharashtra. We want to bring the change in Mumbai. Give us one chance. Thank You,” Raj Thackeray said, concluding his speech.
“Those winning BMC elections, are considering it a business. They want to invest some amount to win elections, and then loot the public money after occupying the seats of power,” Raj Thackeray added.
“I would like to question those ruling Maharashtra for so many years. Do you succeeded in creating one botanical garden in any of the cities?” Raj Thackeray said.
Glorifying the MNS rule in Nashik Municipal Corporation, Raj Thackeray said, “What we have done in Nashik in five years, Shiv Sena failed do it in Mumbai in past 25 years.”
“What has Shiv Sena done for Mumbai in the past 5 years?” Raj Thackeray remarked.
Taking another jibe at Shiv Sena, the MNS supremo added, “You have failed to walk on the path shown by late Balasaheb Thackeray.”
Raj Thackeray accused the Shiv Sena -ruled BMC of wasting crores of money meant for public welfare due to their inefficiency.
Raj Thackeray lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation drive. “They promised a new India following note ban. What has changed. Have seen any changes?”
Raj Thackeray begins address: “Our party has lately been in crisis. But we are going to fight back. A series of setbacks we have suffered, that is true. But we are going to emerge strong in the near future.”
