Jodhpur: Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot filed his nomination for the upcoming Rajasthan assembly elections from Sardarpura seat on Monday. The last date of filing nominations for the state assembly polls was till 3 pm today. The voting is scheduled to take place on December 7 and the results will be announced on December 11.
Before filing the nomination, Ashok Gehlot visited his sister Mrs Vimala to receive blessings. He posted pictures and video clipping of his visit, to his twitter handle.
On Sunday, AICC general secretary and former state Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reportedly said that he is ready to accept any role that is given to him by Congress President Rahul Gandhi. He also expressed his disapproval against lobbying of any sort to obtain a position. Gehlot said, “I have never lobbied even when I faced dissidence as CM. If they (the high command) send me to Rajasthan in party interest, it will be their decision.”
When Gehlot was asked the reason why all the state leaders are contesting for the state assembly elections, unlike in Madhya Pradesh, he stated that the decision was entirely that of the Congress President and he has welcomed the decision.
Congress’s Rajasthan chief Sachin Pilot who is also contesting in the election for the post of chief minister will file nominations from Tonk.
On the other hand, the BJP has repeated its candidate — for the first time since 1999 — who will take on Gehlot in Sardarpura, considered a Congress stronghold. In its first list, the BJP gave ticket to Shambhu Singh Khetasar who had lost the last election in Sardarpura.
