Jaipur: In the forthcoming Rajasthan Assembly election, Sawai Madhopur would be to watch out for. In 2008, the Congress’ Alauddin Azad won the seat but in 2013, the BJP’s Rajkumari Diyakumari managed to wrest the seat by winning 57,384 votes by defeating the NPP candidate. There are 2,31,406 voters in this constituency. Of this, 1,24,459 are men while there are 1,06,947 women. There has been a movement of leaders from one party to another; in a big jolt to the BJP, party MLA from Nagaur, Habibur Rahman, joined the Congress party. Rahman joined the Congress party in the presence of some grand-old party leaders. Also Read - Rains in parts of Rajasthan
The development came hours after BJP MP from Dausa Harish Meena joined the Congress in Delhi. The Dausa MP and former Rajasthan Director General of Police, Meena was formally inducted into the party in the presence of state unit chief Sachin Pilot and General Secretary Ashok Gehlot.
Just a day before that, state Minister Surendra Goyal had sent a curt resignation letter to Rajasthan party President Madanlal Saini saying he was resigning from the primary membership of the BJP. He has been a five-time MLA for BJP. He said he will contest the upcoming election as an Independent from Jaitaran seat.
Elections would be held in a single phase on December 7. Counting of votes would be held on December 11 and the results would be out on the same day. The model code of conduct has been enforced since October 6 when the Election Commission announced the poll schedule.
