Dausa, June 22: The local administration in Rajasthan’s Dausa district has painted the walls of people taking help from the government saying “I receive ration from NFSA”. The walls are painted in yellow and red colour with a message saying, “I am poor and I receive ration from National Food Security Act (NFSA).” The names of people covered under the scheme is also mentioned. Defending the decision, Dausa Zila Parishan CEO Surendra Singh, “This was done just to identify families under BPL and NFSA scheme, we had got directions on this.” Also Read - Food Chain Wendy's Emerges As Saviour, Provides Food For the Needy Amid Lockdown
Nearly 50,000 houses in Sikariya and Bandikui tehsil in Dausa are being painted with the message. Even though the move was aimed to filter those misusing welfare schemes but it has ended up in humiliation. In certain houses, four boards are being put up conveying the same message, Dainik Bhaskar reported.
“The government is making fun of us. Our heads are hanging in shame,” a villager told News18. Another villager said, “For 15 kgs of wheat, our walls are being painted with such a message.”
The administration has made it clear that people who would refuse to put the message will not be entitled to benefits.
