New Delhi: An independent councillor was shot dead in broad daylight in the sub-divisional magistrate office premises in Rajasthan Monday. The incident took place in Hanumangarh district. Sharing the details, police said that he had gone to the SDM office for some work. SDM Avi Garg said Saharan had visited him for some work and when he was leaving, firing took place near the boundary wall of his office. He was admitted to a district hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said, adding that efforts are on to nab the accused, identified as Ramniwas. There were nearly 50 people present in the office premises when the incident took place, they said. In June, a sitting municipal councillor from the Congress party was shot dead by two masked men on a motorcycle in Amritsar. Deputy Commissioner of Police Jagmohan Singh had said that Gurdeep Pehalwan was attacked when he was watching wrestling at the stadium in Goal Bagh area.

The two attackers fire seven rounds on the councillor from point-blank range and fled. Pehalwan was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed.
