Jaipur, April, 13: Leela Ram Gujjar, a tea seller, is under scanner of Income Tax department for giving 1.5 crore dowry for wedding of his 6 daughters. What drew attention of the IT department official is the fact that Leela Ram Gujjar runs a small tea stall at Handuata near Kothputli in Rajasthan. IT department took action against Leela Ram Gujjar after a video went viral in which the tea seller was seen counting the money bundles and handling over the bundles to groom’s family at wedding ceremony of his daughters.

The marriage ceremony of  Leela Ram Gujjar’s 6 daughters was organised on April 4. Since four of his daughters were minor, he had printed wedding cards only for his two elder daughters. Besides IT department’s action, Gujjar is also under scanner of authorities for allegedly getting minor daughters married and paying dowry which is a punishable offence under the law, reported Times of India.

The IT department summoned Leela Ram Gujjar and asked him to appear before them at office, but he failed to show up. “We will wait till Thursday. He will be questioned on his income, and it will be checked if he filed his returns or not. If the dowry he paid stemmed from unaccounted for income, a tax deduction process would be initiated. He has also been asked to produce documents pertaining to his income,” a senior I-T officer was quoted as saying.
