New Delhi: Union Minister of State Giriraj Singh sure knows how to stay in the news by making controversial statements. A couple of days ago, he claimed that all Muslims are descendants of Ram. The next day he went on to say that all Mughal names should be changed. Appreciating UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s initiative, Singh had said, “India is a free country today. We are not slaves of the Mughal or the British. Why should we keep names associated with them? Do people of Bihar not know that Khilji looted the state yet Bakhtiarpur is named after him. Names of around 100 places were changed, including Bihar’s Akbarpur. Yogi Ji took a good step. I will demand that names associated with Mughals should be changed in the entire country, including in Bihar.” (Also read: Giriraj Says Rahul’s Kailash Mansarovar Pix Photoshopped)
His statement earned him a sharp rebuttal from UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar who said, “Jo neta Bihar waale (Giriraj Singh) bayan de rahe hain, wo jis road pe chalte hain usko unke dada banaye hain? GT Road Sher Shah Suri ne banaya hai. Ek nayi sadak bana ke dikha dein, bayan dena alag baat hai (Those politicians who are making comments about name-change even for Bihar, they must remember that the road they take wasn’t built by their grandfather but by Sher Shah Suri. It is easy to talk than do actual work.”
Singh had also said that there was a decline in the Hindu population in the country and wherever that had happened, the harmony was affected, adding that even Muslims were in favour of Ram Mandir. Last month, claiming to be attempting to ‘save’ Sanatan Dharma, Singh had announced that he would be prefixing his ‘gotra’ to his name and, henceforth, be called ‘Shandilya Giriraj Singh’. The BJP leader, who represents Nawada Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, made the announcement on Twitter. He also asked Hindus to follow the practice and save their religion.
