New Delhi, Feb 23: Our paths and styles may be different but our goal is same, asserted superstar Rajinikanth on being asked about his contemporary and good friend Kamal Haasan’s political entry. Addressing media in Chennai on Friday, the veteran actor, who had announced in December that he will enter politics, indicated the style of working of the two contemporaries could be different although public service will be their common goal.
” I watched his (Kamal Haasan) public meeting and it was good. Even in cinema our styles are different, so it will be in politics but to do good for people is the main thing (for both of them),” Rajinikanth told reporters. (Also read: Kamal’s journey from stardom to political plunge)
The decision of the two top Tamil film stars to enter politics comes against the backdrop of a perceived vacuum in Tamil Nadu politics after the death of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa in December 2016. The perception gained further currency due to indifferent health of DMK chief M Karunanidhi. The 93-year-old leader is not actively involved in politics for over a year now.
Earlier on February 21, Tamil actor Kamal Haasan launched his political party – Makkal Needhi Maiam, or Peoples Justice Party while addressing a huge crowd in Othakadai in Madurai. “This is your party. This is people’s party. I am here listen to you. With this joy comes big responsibility, You have to be an example, I am not here to tell you I am here to listen,” Haasan had said.
