New Delhi: A day after Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina was caught on camera criticising former J&K Governor NN Vohra, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday disapproved of the remarks made by the Nowshera MLA, saying, “The post of Governor is constitutional and one has to maintain its dignity.”
The home minister said people of Jammu and Kashmir appreciated the role of Vohra as a governor for 10 years. “I think NN Vohra did good work as Governor of Jammu & Kashmir. People of J&K benefitted from his work.”
Singh also lauded the work of current Governor of the state, Satya Pal Malik and said, “He is a good politician and holds long experience in politics. I am certain that people of the state will be benefited from his political experience.”
Earlier on Thursday, Jammu and Kashmir BJP chief Ravinder Raina was heard purportedly saying in a video that “our own man” has now been appointed as a new governor as party did not want to continue with Vohra. Raina had also alleged that Vohra used to tom-tom his own achievements.
Malik was appointed as governor of Jammu and Kashmir on August 21 replacing Vohra. Malik has been the first career politician to be appointed as the governor of the restive state after Karan Singh, who held the post from 1965 to 1967. Vohra was a former Union Home and Defence Secretary besides being a principal secretary to the former Prime Minister I K Gujral.
