New Delhi, Aug 10: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday thanked Vice President Hamid Ansari for his ‘distinguished ten years in public’ as Rajya Sabha bid farewell to the Chairman of the House. Speaking in the Upper House of Parliament, PM Narendra Modi said Hamid Ansari is leaving ‘with great memories, and his contribution has been significant.’ “Your diplomatic insights were invaluable, especially when I discussed with you before and after my bilateral visits. You are a career diplomat and he spent most part of his life in West Asia. In the last ten years, you have worked within the ambit of the Constitution,” said PM in Rajya Sabha.

PM Narendra Modi described Hamid Ansari as a great diplomat and a dedicated leader. “I thank Vice President Hamid Ansari for all his guidance and cooperation and wish him all the best for future,” said the Prime Minister. Union Finance Minister and Leader of the House Arun Jaitley first rose to bid farewell to Hamid Ansari as Chairman of Rajya Sabha. “We all will miss you. We will always miss you as the Chair of the House. We wish you good health and good luck for future. I wish him all the best. Hamid Ansari leaves us with great memories,” said Jaitley.

The leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said it was an emotional moment to bid farewell to Ansari. Azad thanked Ansari for his contribution to the nation as the vice president of India. Hamid Ansari has served as the 12th Vice-President of the country and also as the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha. He will demit his office today.
