Ram Jethmalani joins OROP protest; takes a dig at Narendra Modi, labels Arun Jaitley as enemy of nation

"Modi has completely frustrated my dream off him"

New Delhi, Aug 31: Ram Jethmalani, former BJP leader and senior lawyer joined One Rank One Pension (OROP) protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. While extending his support to the protesting ex-servicemen, he said that Narendra Modi has failed him completely. Attacking Prime Minister Modi for his failure to implement OROP, he said, “I am ashamed to say that Modi has completely frustrated my dream off him.”

Slamming the government for their policies and taking a dig at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, he said, “Finance Minister is your enemy and the enemy of the nation. They might go to court against me. I feel ashamed in saying I am a politician too, but I am not one of those politicians who will forget their friends and people of nation.”Assuring the OROP protesters, he said, “I have come here to assure, I have no other ambition left in life except to return love and affection I have enjoyed from people of India.” (READ: Arun Jaitley says, NDA Government committed to implement OROP)

The OROP protest has entered its 78th day. Havildar Bal Singh was rushed to the Army Research after his health deteriorated and he fainted.  The retired officers had also written to President Pranab Mukherjee to intervene in the matter however with no effect. Modi in his Indpendence Day speech had promised quick implementation of the scheme. Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and Union Minister Piyush Goyal also promised the same, but no development has been witnessed until now.

OROP is a scheme which will give equal pension to veterans or same rank and for the same length of service, irrespective of the date of retirement.
