New Delhi: The entire nation has been waiting for January 22, 2024 to arrive, which is the day when the majestic Ayodhya Ram Mandir will open its gates for the world, post the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. The Consecration Ceremony of Ram Lalla today, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani, top politicians, cricketers and celebrities of the film industry. Ahead of the Pran Pratishtha, several states including Maharashtra have declared a public holiday on Jan 22. On this holiday declared by Maharashtra, four law students filed a PIL before the Bombay High Court, challenging this decision of the state government. As mentioned earlier, four law students had filed a Public Interest Litigation before Bombay High Court, challenging the holiday declared on January 22 by the Maharashtra Government, on account of the Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha. After the hearing, the Bombay High Court has dismissed the petition and therefore, the holiday stands.
In the PIL, students had emphasised that the consecration of a temple is a religious practice and that it should not be the government’s concern. The PIL further said that public holidays should be reserved for patriotic personalities or historic figures and not for celebration of a temple’s consecration to appease a particular religious community.
As per an official notification issued by the Maharashtra government, January 22 has been declared a public holiday in the state, the day when the Ram Lalla idol will be consecrated at the new Ram Mandir in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya. The holiday was declared by the Maharashtra government under the power delegated to the states by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the notification said.
Centre had already declared a half-day leave for Central Government offices, institutions and industrial establishments across the country; these offices will remain shut till 2:30 PM on January 22. Several states including UP, MP and Chhattisgarh have declared a holiday for educational institutions and a ‘Dry Day’ for the day of the Consecration.
