New Delhi: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Friday claimed that Lord Ram was the ancestor of not only Hindus but Muslims too. Talking to news agency ANI, he said, “Ram Mandir will be constructed in Ayodhya.  It will not be constructed in Mecca-Medina or Vatican City. This is undisputed truth that Ram’s birthplace is Ayodhya and Ram is not only Hindu but also the ancestor of Muslims.”

Ramdev made this statement when he was in Nadiad town in Kheda district to take part in a Yoga Shibir organised by Santram temple. He also said that the Ram temple issue should not be linked to vote bank politics.

Hitting at Ramdev for his ancestor remark, Congress said that religious leaders like him were “beneficiaries” of the ruling BJP and make such statements to help the party win the polls.

In the past too, the opposition parties had tried to corner the ruling government over this issue and demanded to bring an ordinance on the construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya. (Also Read: Ram Temple Construction in Ayodhya Will be Completed by Kumbh 2025: RSS)

On January 1, 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made it very clear that an ordinance could be brought in only after the judicial process was completed. Earlier, BJP leader Ram Madhav had said that the party is fully committed to building a magnificent temple in Ayodhya.

Notably, the Supreme Court had deferred the hearing in the politically-sensitive Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land title dispute due to the unavailability of Justice S A Bobde.

“Ayodhya case won’t be taken up for hearing by the 5-judge constitution bench of Supreme Court on January 29 due to the non-availability of Justice Bobde,” the apex court had said in a statement. The court, however, is yet to announce a date on which the matter will be taken up.

During the last hearing on January 10, the apex court had said since Justice Lalit has opted out of the hearing in the matter, there was no option left but to adjourn the case “to fix a date of hearing and to draw up a time schedule for the hearing of the case”.
