New Delhi, July 27: Senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala on Friday refuted reports which stated that Congress is contemplating abolishing income tax for people under 35 yrs of age, if it comes to power in 2019.

Reportedly, the idea regarding abolishing of income tax for people below 35 years of age was proposed and discussed at a party meeting on July 13. However, no conclusion had been drawn regarding using this as part of their 2019 manifesto.

The party meeting which was undertaken by Priyanka Gandhi- who is managing Congress’ strategy for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections. The reason behind this idea was to draw the youth’s attention towards the party. Congress is said to believe that the move might open entrepreneurial dreams for many and will also lead to generation of jobs.

However, as per various sources, the decision to abolish income tax for people below 35 years of age has not been put a stamp on. It has been estimated that nearly 15 million first-time voters will cast their votes in Lok Sabha 2019 elections.
