New Delhi, January 31: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed that two doctors from All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) would supervise the case of the eight-month-old baby, who was raped by her cousin, and thereafter take a decision. The doctors would decide to whether to shift the child to AIIMS or what could be the best possible step for her.

The apex court said it is ‘very much concerned’ about the infant and orders Delhi Legal Services Authority to assist in the case. The court has posted the matter for hearing on Thursday.

The child underwent a three-hour-long surgery and is stable, police had said on Tuesday.

Delhi Commission For Women chief Swati Maliwal visited the girl at Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital yesterday. She also announced a compensation of Rs 50,000 to the baby.

The baby was raped by her 28-year-old cousin in northwest Delhi’s Netaji Subhash Place, following which he was arrested. The accused had confessed to raping the baby on Sunday under the influence of alcohol.

The girl’s parents used to go out for work and leave their daughter in the custody of their sister-in-law. Since it was a Sunday, their sister-in-law’s son was at home.

When he saw that his mother was not around, the accused allegedly forced himself on the baby, police said.

On returning home around 12:30 PM, the girl’s mother, who works as a maid, saw blood stains on her daughter’s clothes and informed her husband.

The father said he had left his two daughters “safe and sound” in the custody of their relative. “My wife left for work around 10-11 AM. When she returned after one and a half hours, she saw blood on the bed and our daughter’s condition was not good,” he said.
