Mathura, April 21: Speaking on the rising number of cases of crime against women and children, actor and BJP’s Mathura MP Hema Malini said on Saturday that such cases were just getting more publicity now, reports ANI. She said such crimes must have happened earlier too. “Such cases are being given publicity these days. So, it may have been happening earlier too but wasn’t known. The government will definitely be taking more precaution and coming out with a solution,” she said. “Such incidents should not have happened; it is also showing our country in a bad light,” she said.
Her comments come at a time when the Union Cabinet is mulling over an ordinance that would ensure amendment in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Meanwhile, it is just not about reporting crimes; there has been a spate of sexual crimes against children. On Saturday itself, a four-month-old baby’s blood-soaked body was recovered in Indore. She had been raped before being killed. On Friday, three rapes were reported from different parts of the country. And the country is still seeking over the brutal gangrape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua, Jammu & Kashmir.
