New Delhi, Feb 19: Famous Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan on Sunday formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party president Amit Shah. The move comes while the state is proceeding with the third phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections 2017.  Earlier today morning, BJP MP and Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari took to Twitter and announced the 47-year old famous actor’s decision to join the saffron party. Tiwari also shared a picture of the two sitting inside a Delhi-bound plane. When asked, Kishan said that his focus lies in working for the poor and development. Ravi Kishan was also accompanied by BJP MP and Delhi unit chief Manoj Tiwari at the BJP headquarters on 11 Ashoka Road, New Delhi.

Kishan was quoted saying by Indian Express that his focus is on development not on insulting others. “Have come to the party that thinks for the poor, my focus is on development not on insulting others.” In 2014, the well known Bhojpuri actor Ravi Kishan had contested elections on Congress ticket.  Tiwari was inducted in the BJP ahead of the 2014 General Elections and successfully contested from the North-East constituency in Delhi. Both the leaders, Tiwari and Kishan are famous faces in Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema.

The third phase of assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh began on Sunday at 7 AM and will end at 5 PM. Polling is underway for 69 seats across 12 districts of Uttar Pradesh where a total of 2.41 crore voters will decide the fate of 826 candidates. The 12 districts where polling began at 7 am are Farrukhabad, Mainpuri, Etawah, Hardoi, Kannauj, Kanpur rural, Kanpur city, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki, Auraiyya and Sitapur. As per report by ANI, there are 1.31 crore men, 1.1 crore women and 1,026 voters from the third gender who are expected to vote this time in the third phase.  It was also reported that there are 16,671 polling centres and 25,603 polling.
