When and where did the blast occur?
According to the Delhi Fire Service, the blast occurred on Monday (November 10) at around 6:55 p.m. near Gate No. 1 of the Lal Qila Metro Station, close to the Gauri Shankar Temple. According to an official, the explosion took place in a moving car, which suddenly burst into flames, engulfing several other vehicles parked nearby. Seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot, and the Delhi Police Special Cell immediately launched an investigation.
How many people died and were injured?
According to initial reports, eight people have died in the incident so far, while 12 others have been injured. Rescue teams immediately reached the spot and admitted the injured to nearby hospitals.
What did eyewitnesses say?
Following the blast, the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Anti-Terror Squad cordoned off the entire area. Eyewitnesses said they had “never heard such a loud explosion before.” Many people said it “felt like everything was going to end,” causing panic and chaos in the area.
Where are the injured being treated?
According to media reports, the injured have been admitted to the LNJP (Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan) Hospital, located in the Maulana Azad Medical College complex. The hospital administration has confirmed eight deaths, while the remaining injured are undergoing treatment.
Has the blast affected Delhi Metro services?
Given the situation, Delhi Metro has also been reported to be running late. As per reports, metro trains running on the Chandni Chowk route (Yellow Line) are facing some delays and have become overcrowded. However, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
