Patna: Senior BJP leader CP Thakur has asked Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to rename Patna’s Daakbangla ‘chauraha’ after late former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. ‘Atal Chauraha’ was the name suggested by CP Thakur for the historic square in Patna. Daakbangla ‘chauraha’ was first developed during the British rule in India.
The 93-year-old leader was admitted in Delhi’s AIIMS on June 11 since he suffered from a urinary tract infection. Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last at 5.05 PM on August 16.
An urn containing the ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was immersed in Gomti river in Lucknow on Thursday (August 23). The remaining urns will be sent to the 16 divisions in Uttar Pradesh. As a tribute to Vajpayee, the BJP government has decided to immersed his ashes in 11 rivers of the country.

Vajpayee’s niece slams PM Modi
Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece Karun Shukla on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh for politicising Vajpayee’s name. Karuna Shukla reportedly said that there was no mention of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s name when the BJP government was in power at both the Centre and states.
However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took Vajpayee’s name during the Independence Day celebration at the Red Fort this year, she said. Karuna Shukla said, “PM Modi did that because he had gone to see Vajpayee in AIIMS on August 14. He had perhaps realised that the former PM’s condition was quite delicate. Perhaps, therefore, he took his name.”
