New Delhi: India celebrates its 70th Republic Day today on January 26, 2019. The Republic Day Parade began from Vijay Chowk marking the Republic Day celebrations in the country. Prior to the commencement of the Parade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to the martyrs by laying a wreath at the Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate. The ceremonial parade is expected to begin at 9:50 AM from Vijay Chowk and make way towards the Red Fort Grounds through Rajpath, ‘C’ Hexagon, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg. Click here for President Ram Nath Kovind ‘s address to the nation on R-day eve.

This year, the chief guest for the Republic Day parade is President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa. Besides, 58 tribal guests from various parts of the country will also become a witness to the 90-minute Republic Day parade.

Major Khusboo Kanwar will be leading an all women marching contingent of the Assam Rifles, participating in the ceremony for the first time. The veterans of Indian National Army (INA) – Parmanand, Lalti Ram, Hira Singh and Bhagmal – who fought valiantly against the imperial forces will also take part in Republic Day parade.

The Republic Day parade will also witness 22 Tableaux of various states and departments with the theme –150 years of Mahatma Gandhi. The military might of India will also be displayed during the ceremony. M-77 A2 Ultra light Howitzer (ULH) and K9 Vajra T, among others.
