New Delhi, Jan 26: India celebrated its 68th Republic Day with a massive display of military might and cultural diversity at Rajpath in New Delhi. The Republic Day Parade, which started from the Raisina Hill Rashtrapati Bhavan (the President’s residence), marked the Republic Day celebrations in the country. On the eve of the Republic Day 2017, President Pranab Mukherjee unfurled the tricolour. Crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan attended the 68th Republic celebration as the chief guest. The honour was previously given to former US President Barack Obama, French president Francois Hollande and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Like every year, this time too the Republic Day Parade showcased India’s defence capability and preparedness, cultural and social heritage. In a 95 minute-long event, 23 tableaux from the central government departments and various states were displayed the events related to the culture, history and development and initiatives.

After a gap of three years, Delhi’s tableau made a comeback in the Republic Day Parade. The tableau, Model School presented the transformation in government schools and better quality of education in the national capital. Lakshadweep tableaux also participated in parade after 26 years and Delhi tableaux after 3 years. Each State tableau depicted its own story to portray themes ranging from art form, folk culture, flora and fauna and achievements.
