Rewari (Haryana): The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which has been probing the case, on Sunday arrested Nishu Phogat who had planned the Rewari rape case and had even called a doctor when the 19-year-old victim’s condition deteriorated. The police suspect that the doctor Sanjeev Kumar knew about the crime the men had committed but did not inform anyone.
“The doctor was there when the rape happened and didn’t inform any authority points to the fact that he didn’t take correct legal action. Evidence also points out that he was involved in the act as well. Further forensics will clear the matter,” SIT chief Nazneen Bhasin told NDTV.
The sources said that when the doctors arrived from the Lukhi village, they told the rapists that the girl had extremely low blood pressure and could die if she’s not given a treatment immediately. Earlier it was reported that the doctor was given security as his statements could prove to be pivotal in the case.
After her condition worsened, the rapists took the girl to the same bus stop they had picked her up from in Kanina and called her father. Manish, one of the accused, told the girl’s father that he spotted his daughter in an unconscious state and asked him to pick her up.
On Sunday, the police arrested the practitioner doctor who had attended the woman and owner of the house where the girl was gangraped. The police suspect that the house owner also knew about the crime but failed to inform anyone. The owner of the property told the police that the accused had taken keys to the room on the day of the crime.
The SIT of Haryana Police said on Sunday evening that one of the three main accused in the brutal gang-rape of a second-year college student in Haryana had been arrested, nearly 110 hours after the incident. Bhasin said that Nishu had got in touch with the house owner to arrange the room after the accused kidnapped the victim and sedated her.
After interrorating over 100 people, it has been revealed that the room was being used for other “wrong activities”. In other reports, raids are being conducted to nab the other two accused, including soldier Pankaj.
The victim was gang-raped on September 12 after being kidnapped and sedated by the accused. It is suspected that she was gangraped by at least 12 men. Meanwhile, the family of the victim rejected the compensation cheque for Rs 2 lakh sent by the Haryana government saying they want “justice not money”.
