Lucknow, Mar 22: Rita Bahuguna Joshi, who quit Congress and joined BJP ahead of UP elections, has been given charge of child development ministry in Uttar Pradesh cabinet. Rita Bahuguna Joshi successfully contested against daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Aparna Yadav on BJP’s ticket from Lucknow Cantt constituency. Rita Bahuguna Joshi contested against Samajwadi Party strong candidate and daughter-in-law of Mulayam Singh Yadav, Aparna Yadav. Besides Mulayam, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, his wife Dimple Yadav had also campaigned on this seat for Aparna. The defeat of Aparna Yadav was a major setback for Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav who campaigned for his daughter-in-law. Rita Bahuguna Joshi is the daughter of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna and she is the younger sister of former Uttar Pradesh Congress president and Uttarakhand chief minister Vijay Bahuguna. Rita Bahuguna Joshi is in Congress from past 24 years but she left the party and joined the BJP. After joining BJP, Rita Joshi slammed Rahul Gandhi and said that she was incensed by Rahul Gandhi’s comments against the army and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the surgical strikes. This led her to immediately call time on her over two-decade old ties with Congress and joined BJP just before the 2017 Assembly elections. Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath kept Home ministry with himself, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya got PWD ministry along with Food Processing, Entertainment Tax and Public Enterprises Department. Suresh Khanna got Parliamentary Affairs ministry respectively.
