RK Nagar Bypoll 2017 Results News And Updates: Dhinakaran Wins R K Nagar Bypoll, Says People Have Chosen me as 'Amma's Successor

New Delhi, Dec 24: The results for Dr. Radhakrishnan Nagar (RK Nagar) Assembly Bye-elections will be declared on Sunday. Polling passed off peacefully at the RK Nagar Assembly constituency on Thursday with 77 per cent of the electorate exercising their franchise in the prestigious election. The Counting of votes will begin at 8 AM and is expected to end by afternoon.

The key contenders in the poll are ruling AIADMK’s E Madhusudhanan, main opposition DMK candidate N Maruthu Ganesh and sidelined AIADMK leader T T V Dhinakaran who is contesting as an independent candidate.

The bypoll is being seen as an litmus test for the AIADMK, as it is the first election since Jayalalithaa’s death and after it got the Two Leaves election symbol back following merger of factions led by chief minister K Palaniswami and his present deputy and former rebel O Panneerselvem.

The by-poll was earlier scheduled for April 12 but was cancelled following allegations that sums of money were distributed by the faction of jailed All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) leader VK Sasikala in a vote-for-cash scam.

Apart from RK Nagar, results for four other constituencies which went to polls on Thursday will be declared today. While one constituency is in Uttar Pradesh, two are in Arunachal Pradesh and one in West Bengal. In Arunachal, Pakke-Kasang (ST) and 28-Likabali (ST) Assembly constituencies went for re-elections. Whereas in Uttar Pradesh, Sikandra assembly constituency and in West Bengal’s Sabang constituency went to poll on December 21.
