Chennai, Dec 4: Tamil actor Vishal has announced that he will be contesting the RK Nagar bye-election to be held on December 21. Vishal, the head of South Indian Film Artistes’ Association and the Film Producers’ Council, will contest the RK Nagar bypoll as an Independent candidate and will work for ‘change’. “This is to inform everyone that I have decided to contest in the upcoming election to be held in RK Nagar. I will be filing my nomination this Monday, 4th Dec. Hoping for a change & the change is inevitable,” Vishal tweeted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, speaking to various media channels, Vishal has said that he wants to continue like a commoner and not a politician. The actor, as quoted by News18 said that he draws inspiration from Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and late former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

The RK Nagar bypoll will be held on December 21 while counting of votes will take place on December 24. On Friday, sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran filed nomination for the election. AIADMK presidium chairman and party’s nominee E Madhusudhanan and DMK’s M Maruthuganesh also filed their nominations for the bypoll.

The RK Nagar seat has been in the news ever since it fell vacant after the death of former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa. The election was cancelled after allegations of ‘cash for votes’ and ‘two leaves’ symbol bribery cases. With Vishal’s entry, the contest becomes even more interesting.
