RK Nagar, Pakke-Kasang, 28-Likabali, Sikandra, Sabang Assembly Bye-elections 2017: Polling Underway in All Constituencies

New Delhi, Dec 21: 57.16 per cent voter turnout was recorded in Tamil Nadu’s high-profile assembly constituency, RK Nagar on Thursday till 3 pm.

DMK candidate N Marudhu Ganesh and BJP candidate Karu Nagarajan were among the early voters.  N Marudhu Ganesh reached polling booth number 134 and exercised his right to vote. He said: “whether it is Rs 6000 or Rs 60,000, we are going to win; voters of RK Nagar will teach a lesson to AIADMK this time. ”

Chennai Police Commissioner AK Viswanathan said that the police would ensure free and fair elections. He informed that additional forces were deployed to maintain order during polling. (Also read: EPS-OPS Faction Wins Back AIADMK Two Leaves Symbol)

Apart from RK Nagar, four other constituencies have also gone to polls on Thursday. While one constituency is in Uttar Pradesh, two are in Arunachal Pradesh and one in West Bengal.

In Arunachal, Pakke-Kasang (ST) and 28-Likabali (ST) Assembly constituencies have gone for re-elections. The voting will be held between 7 am and 4 pm. EVMs and Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) system is being used for the first time in the state. Police and paramilitary are deployed in large number to ensure smooth conduct of elections.

In Uttar Pradesh, Sikandra assembly constituency in Kanpur Dehat district has also gone to poll today. The re-election was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Mathura Prasad Pal. West Bengal’s Sabang constituency has also gone to polls.
