Mumbai, October 21: In a shocking sequence of events, National level Kabbadi player Rohit Chillar has been arrested by the Delhi Police on Friday. Further, the Kabaddi player’s father, Vijay Chillar has been sent to 14 days judicial custody. Vijay Chillar had surrendered to the police earlier in the day at the Nangloi police station in Delhi. Chillar’s mother, Sarita is on the run.
The arrests come as a result of the suicide committed by Rohith Chillar’s wife, Lalitha Kumar. Kumar was found hanging at her parents’ house in Delhi on Tuesday. She was found in that state by her father. The 27-year-old, Lalitha Kumar had left a suicide note in which she had accused Rohith Chillar and his family of torturing her for dowry.
The Delhi Police has said that Lalitha Kumar had recorded a two-hour-long audio message for her husband, Rohith Chillar and a shorter message for her family along with the suicide message she wrote. The police said Kumar, in her note, also alleged that she was forced to live alone because her husband was frequently out of town. A senior police officer commented that, “Lalita said in the note that she was asked by her husband last weekend to leave him for his happiness, so she took this step.” In her audio message, Kumar has said, “I am not strong enough to survive this, I have decided to quit.” (ALSO READ: Kabaddi player Rohit Chillar held for dowry death, father surrenders )
According to reports in ANI, Joint Commissioner of Police in Mumbai, Deependra Pathak has said, “We arrested Chillar from Mumbai. He will be presented in a court there for transit remand to bring him back to Delhi for interrogation. Lalita’s suicide note and audio clips prove that she was facing harassment.” According to reports, a Police team from Delhi went to Mumbai on Thursday and arrested Chillar from his staff quarters on Friday morning. However, the parents-in-law, who are coaccused in the case, absconded on seeing that a notice was served to them.
Rohith Chillar and Lalitha Kumar met during their time in college and married in March 2016. Rohith Chillar had joined the Indian Navy in 2009, and was posted in Mumbai.
