Thiruvananthapuram: After days of dithering over the issue, The Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), that administers the Sabarimala Temple, decided on Friday to file a review petition in the Supreme Court over its verdict that allowed the entry of women of all ages in the hill shrine. “We have decided to appeal against the Supreme Court verdict that allowed women of all age groups to enter the Sabarimala Temple,” TDB President A Padmakumar informed the media. The decision came following a meeting with all the stakeholders earlier. Then, representatives of the Pandalam royal family had walked out as the TDB refused to take a decision on filing the review plea. (Catch LIVE Updates From Sabarimala Temple Here)

Reaching out to devotees through media on Thursday, TDB president A Padmakumar had said, “We are not for any politics over the issue.” PTI also quoted him as wondering if filing a review petition in the Supreme Court, against the verdict that allowed women of all age groups inside the temple, would end the impasse.

The Sabarimala temple had opened on Wednesday for the first time after the recent apex court order, allowing entry of women of all age groups there. What unfolded on Day 2 was just a repeat of the first day with angry protesters again opposing the entry of women of menstrual age into the hill shrine. On Friday, two women attempted to enter but were turned back.

Earlier, a news portal quoted the Kerala IG as saying, “We were helpless. The head priest said that he will close the temple and that would have been a ritualistic disaster. We could have removed the protesters but the state government had ordered us not to. We will continue to provide security to devotees.”
