Mumbai, April 26: Bollywood actor Salman Khan came under fresh fire on Tuesday, after his appointment as the Goodwill ambassador of the Indian contingent at the Rio Olympics. An online petition was started against him, which implored the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to ban Salman, and guess who started it! None other than Aishwarya Rai. Now before you get all worked up about it- we want to tell you that it is not THE Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The petition that was started on Monday and has some 280 supporters right now, and that the petition was started by someone with the title of Salman’s ex Aishwarya, is intriguing. The petition is titled ‘Ban Salman Khan from being Good Will Ambassador 2016 Rio Olympics’ and lists a number of reasons why the agency should reconsider its decision to let the megastar represent our players at the Olympics. The petitioner says that the decision is “regressive” and “reflects negatively on India”. The reasons are linked to all the controversies that the actor has been involved in, in the past, including the one involving the real Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, where he was rumoured to have abused her, while they were in a relationship. IOA’s decision that came on Sunday, kicked up a huge storm, after prominent sportspersons including ace sprinter Milkha Singh and former hockey star Dhanraj Pillai, voicing their objections about a film star being made to represent India at the world’s biggest sporting event.
