Notably, votes are being counted today for the single-phase Delhi Assembly Election which took place on February 8. Trends that have emerged thus far have gone as per the exit polls, indicating a return to power for the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) with a thumping majority, an ‘improved’ performance from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and zero seats for the Congress.

On Tuesday, Chidambaram tweeted: “AAP won, bluff and bluster lost. The people of Delhi, who are from all parts of India, have defeated the polarising, divisive and dangerous agenda of the BJP.”

The BJP has come in for severe criticism for its election campaign, during which its leaders targeted the Shaheen Bagh protests and also called CM Arvind Kejriwal a ‘naxalite’ and a ‘terrorist.’

“I salute the people of Delhi who have set an example to other states that will hold their elections in 2021 and 2022,” the former Union Finance and Home Minister added.

In the aftermath of the trends, several Congress leaders have gone public with their criticism of the party leadership, urging the party to not take solace in the BJP’s not-so-good-show.

Several memes and jokes on the grand old party have been doing the rounds on social media since morning, when the first trends started coming in.
