Gwalior, Jan 10: A group of students in Gwalior have launched a campaign to send 1,000 sanitary napkins to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to eliminate 12 per cent Goods and Services Tax (GST) on the product. The students have said that 1,000 napkins with messages written on them will be collected and sent to the Prime Minister.

The students are also urging PM Modi to make sanitary napkins free of cost. They say that the campaign also focuses on creating awareness towards harassment faced by women and to put efforts on their empowerment.

The campaign was launched on January 4 and has been spreading through social media. “Sanitary napkins have been placed under 12% GST. Women from rural areas use others things during their menstrual days, which is fatal to their health. Instead of giving subsidy, it has been placed under the luxury item. Therefore, we have started this campaign aiming to send 1000 pads to the government by March 3,” said Hari Mohan, a student, as quoted by ANI.

He also said that women in the country will stay healthy if sanitary napkins are made cheaper or free of cost.
