Pune, Feb 25: Bollywood’s Khalnayak, Sanjay Dutt walked out of jail on Thursday morning from Pune’s Yerwada jail. The 56-year-old spent 42 months behind the bars after he was convicted for illegal possession of arms under the Arms Act. He was jailed for his involvement in the 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blast.
After he released from jail, Dutt saluted the national flag outside the prison and also bowed down. The actor was received by his wife Manyata Dutt and director Rajkumar Hirani outside the jail. Security was tightened outside the jail premises ahead of Dutt’s release. Hirani told media that he was glad about the release of Sanjay Dutt. Hirani is all set to direct biopic of Sanjay Dutt starring Ranbir Kapoor. (Also Read: Sanjay Dutt released from Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail)
A PIL was filed against the release of the 56-year-old actor. Social activist Pradeep Bhalekar who filed the peittion urged the government to to cancel Dutt’s release and continue his term in jail. Dutt was arrested and jailed in May 2013 for the illegal possession of arms under the Arms Act. Although he was sent for a five-year jail-term, the period was reduced to 42 months.
Dutt will take a chartered flight from Pune to Mumbai. He will then go to Siddhivinayak temple and later to his monther Nargis Dutt’s grave in Marine Lines. He will later head to his residence in Pali Hill. Dutt had come under criticisms for his frequent parole term from the jail. Reports also said that he was given VIP treatment inside the jail.
