New Delhi, May 18: The head of the spiritual organisation Nirankari Sect, Baba Hardev Singh who had died in a car accident in Canada last week, was creamted at Nigambodh Ghat in New Delhi on Wednesday. The spiritual leaders’ family and Nirankari other leaders’ and thousands of devotees and followers of Baba Hardev, were present during the cremation ceremony. The funeral procession, that had begun from Nirankari Mission Ashram at Burari at 9 am, had almost brought the capital city to a standstill.Also Read - Netaji's Statue Will Inspire Democratic Values, Future Generations, Says PM Modi After Unveiling His Hologram

From the Ashram, the procession had reached Nigambodh Ghat, by moving through Mukherjee Nagar, Mall Road and Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and Kashmere Gate. The mourners had reached the Ghat at about 1.40 pm and had been accompanied by security forces and security vehicles, as well as  vehicles of Nirankari leaders, who had kept up with the procession, singing religious hymns all the while. The tragic death of the leader of Sant Nirankari Mission had struck a blow to millions of subscribers, as they recieved the news of demise of the 61-year-old, while he travelling from New York to Montreal in a car in Canada. The car, which also had Singh’s two sons-in-law Avneet and Sandeep Khinda, had met with an accident. The injured had all been taken to the hospital and there Baba, along with one of his sons-in-law Sandeep succumbed to the injuries.
