New Delhi, Dec 28: The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Wednesday banned the display of non-vegetarian food at the open stalls outside eateries in South Delhi over ‘sentiments’ and ‘hygiene’ reasons. The next meeting regarding this will be held on January 3 before finalising the terms and conditions.
The resolution to ban non-veg food at open stalls outside eateries was moved by councillors Raj Dutt and seconded by Nandini Sharma. They argued that such food such as such as roasted chicken, kebabs and shawarma kept outside pose a danger of contamination along with hurting the sentiments of the vegetarian public.
“If restaurant owners are found displaying non-vegetarian items in public, action against them should be taken as per the municipal law,” the proposal said.
The approval was accepted by a leader of the house Shikha Rai saying that the concern of the councillors was hygiene and sentiments of the people. “It has been observed that shops displaying non-veg outside their premises attracts dogs and raise hygiene issue. Besides, it is also about hurting the sentiments of people who are vegetarian,” she said.
The final confirmation will, however, come after the meeting on January 3.
