New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy on Thursday said that ‘homosexuality’ is an American game and the SC’s verdict will soon lead to the opening of gay bars which in turn will lead to the spreading of HIV. He said, “It is the American game. Soon there will be gay bars here where homosexuals can go. HIV will spread.”

Swamy likened homosexuality to a ‘genetic disorder’ and said medical research must be done to rectify it. He said, “It is like someone having six fingers.” Referring to the SC’s verdict on Section 377, which decriminalised gay sex, Swamy added that after looking at the consequences he hoped the next government will move a 7-judge bench to set aside this 5-judge bench order.

Saying so, Swamy also added that whatever happened in someone’s private life should not concern anyone and neither should they be punished.

Earlier today, the Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) said that though it supported the Supreme Court’s decision and did not consider gay sex a crime, it would not encourage such relationships as same-sex marriage and relationship are neither natural nor desirable.

Arun Kumar of the Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh, RSS said that the Indian society did not recognise such relations. He also added that a man usually learns by experiences and hence homosexuality needs to be dealt with at social and psychological levels.
