Jaiswal had been asked by the Maharashtra state government before being handed over the post of Commissioner of Police. The state had written to Jaiswal in April asking him if he would like to return to the Maharashtra force, while he was in Delhi working under the central government. Jaiswal’s tenure as Commissioner of Police may however be cut short if the current DGP Padgalsikar retires in August this year, as slated. Jaiswal is however slated to retire in the year 2022.
Thane CP Parambir Singh, CID commissioner Sanjay Barve and Pune CP Rashmi Shukla were the other contenders for the post of Mumbai Commissioner of Police.
