“The prime minister may be a terrific orator but this speech (in Lok Sabha) was a farrago of misrepresentations and half truths. To claim credit for lowering the price of solar panel when everyone knows that they have gone down worldwide…Why doesn’t he (PM Modi) compare the average tenure of UPA with the first three years of NDA…he’ll find very different numbers,” Tharoor said. Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a fresh attack at the Congress Party, saying the country has been suffering due to the “wrong” policies it has pursued since independence and that the party has spent time singing paeans to one family instead of focusing on people’s welfare. Replying in the Lok Sabha to the Motion of Thanks on President’s address, PM Modi also criticised the TDP over bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, alleging that it did so only for “political” considerations without any preparation for which the people were facing hardships. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi also hit out at Modi, saying the PM’s speech had no new information and only repeated old things. “PM said nothing new, he is repeating old things, people are interested about their jobs , they want to know about their future,” Sonia Gandhi said. Congress president Rahul Gandhi too slammed PM Modi for neglecting major issues in his speech.

Reacting to Modi’s speech, Rahul Gandhi said, “PM Modi spoke for more than an hour in Lok Sabha but didn’t speak a word on Rafale deal, or on farmers or on employment for youth. It was totally a political speech.”

Blaming the Rahul Gandhi-led party for corruption, PM Modi also took a dig at Congress and said the government’s efforts to eliminate corruption and black money are ‘hurting’ a select section.
