Kochi (Kerala), March 3: Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying he won 2014 Lok Sabha elections “because of a very clever packaging of development message”. The Congress has been attacking Modi every now and then over repackaging of schemes introduced by previous Congress-led UPA government. “Atal Bihari Vajpayee made the government with 182 seats, Narendra Modi has 282. These extra 100 seats did not come because of Hindutva message. These seats came because of a very clever packaging of development message. That is what bottled those extra percent of votes,” Tharoor said at an ‘In conversation’ programme on his book ‘Why I am a Hindu’ as part of the Krithi international book festival in Kochi. Earlier, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi hit out at the Narendra Modi government over the same. “This government announces what it calls new programmes and initiatives ever so often, unveiling them with the flourish of a magician. In reality, they are simply recycled schemes that were launched during the UPA government. True, the new names are catchy and colourful, perhaps much more so than during our time, we must admit. But this seems to be a game of Maximum Publicity, Minimum Government, or put another way, Maximum Marketing, Minimum Delivery,” Sonia had said. Tharoor also questioned the acceptance of those people, who attack others for marrying in another faith or eating beef. “People who are willing to attack others for marrying into another faith or allegedly eating beef, is gaining more acceptance than it should. People like them exist and we cannot wish them away,” Tharoor said.
