New Delhi, June 16: In what appears to be a crucial strategic step, Congress is likely to announce its chief ministerial candidate for Uttar Pradesh. According to sources near to NDTV, Dixit is likely to be announced as CM candidate of the party. The speculations were made after Dixit reached the residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Thursday, to attend a high-level meeting. Dixit was reported the third option suggested by strategist Prashant Kishor to Congress high command. Earlier, he had opined that Rahul Gandhi or Priyanka Gandhi would make for the perfect chief ministerial face. However, since the two members of Gandhi family are reluctant to enter the battlefield in UP, Kishor claimed that former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit would also be an appealing candidate for the state, considering her 15-year-track record in Delhi. On Monday, Congress-in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed the urgency to announce a chief ministerial candidate in the state since in order to create a bond with the electorate. The assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are expected to be conducted in March 2017. The ruling Samajwadi Party has already began a door-to-door campaign across the state to consolidate its vote bank.
