Mumbai, October 7: Pakistani ghazal artist Ghulam Ali, who scheduled to perform at a concert on Friday, October 9, will not be able to do so, as the Shiv Sena asked the organisers to cancel the event. Shiv Sena workers on Wednesday, told the organisers to cancel the event, in the light of the tense relations between India and Pakistan. The Shiv Sena said that India should not maintain any sort of relations with Pakistan, until it employs stricter measures to tackle with terrorism on its soil. The move comes in the wake of repeated border ceasefire violations from the Pakistani side and the cancellation of the NSA talks. The concert was supposed to be held at the Shanmukhanand Hall, where the Sena also frequently hosts events and meetings. Sena spokesperson Sanjay Raut told ANI,”Be it cultural programs,cricket or diplomacy, Shiv Sena is against having good relations with Pakistan until it stops terrorism on Indian soil.” He added by saying,“Ghulam Ali ka concert ho jayega,lekin tab jab Pak baaz ayega,Pak Hindustan ke saath rishte sudhaarega.” (Ghulam Ali’s concert will happen, but only when its relations with India will improve.) In January as well, Shiv Sena had made sure that Ali’s concert was cancelled. The protests had gotten out of hand and 15 Sena members had been arrested and booked under IPC section 143 for unlawful assembly.
“We can’t have cultural ties with Pakistan when they kill our soldiers,” Shiv Sena said today, according to a report by NDTV. Members of the Sena’s cine wing, Sena Chitrapat, today met the officials of the hall, urging them to cancel the concert. The party had also protested against wildly popular singer Atif Aslam’s concert in India and the Pakistani cricket team playing on Indian soil. The 47 year old Ghulam Ali, has sung for many Indian films and has also performed at a concert in Varanasi earlier. The BJP has so far, not reacted to the Sena’s decision to protests against Ali, but the party seems determined to stick to its stand, no matter what its coalition partner says.
