Srinagar: Two militants including Lateef Tiger, the last surviving militant of Burhan Wani’s group have been killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Imam Sahib area of Shopian district in south Kashmir in the morning. As per a report of Zee News, a joint team of 34RR and Special Operations Group (SOG) launched an operation in Imam Sahib after having inputs about presence of militants in the area. “As the cordon was tightened, the militants fired at the security forces triggering the gunfight in which the militant was killed. The operation is still underway,” police told news agency IANS. In 2018, security forces had gunned down ten terrorists, belonging to the group of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.
Wani, the poster boy of new age militancy was killed by security forces on July 8, 2016, in south Kashmir’s Kokernag in Anantnag district. His death triggered a series of clashes between protesters and security forces.
Last week, security forces had gunned two more Hizbul terrorists in Anantnag district. The terrorists were identified as Safder Amin Bhat (25) and Burhan Ahmad Ganie (25).
