Shopian (J&K): A Special Police Officer (SPO) on Friday fled PDP MLA Aijaz Ahmad Mir’s residence with seven AK 47s and one pistol prompting the guards to sound a high alert. The incident happened on Friday evening at Government Quarters in Jawahar Nagar in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian.
Police said SPO Adil Bashir posted on guard duty of PDP MLA Aijaz Mir at his official residence in Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar city decamped with the service weapons of his colleagues. The SPO hailed from Zainapora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian.
“The SPO has decamped with seven AK-47 rifles and a pistol belonging to other guards posted at the MLA’s residence.” A manhunt has been launched to trace the SPO, the police said.
On September 21, terrorists kidnapped and shot three Jammu and Kashmir SPOs, stunning the police force. Three special police officers (SPOs), who form the lowest rung of the police force in the state, were gunned down hours after they were abducted separately from their homes in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, a militant stronghold, police said.
A police officer said that the locals later discovered their bullet-riddled bodies in a village in the morning. The dead men were identified as Firdous Ahmad Kuchai, Nisar Ahmad Dhobi and Kuldeep Singh.
